Ultrasonic Sensor mounts on any Pipe

Greyline Doppler Flow Meters monitor the flow rate of dirty or aerated liquids including: wastewater, chemicals, acids, slurries, abrasives and viscous liquids. Recommended for full pipes and any fluid that contains solids or bubbles.

The DFM 5.1 strap-on sensor is mounted on the outside of a plastic or metal pipe ½ inch / 12.7 mm diameter or larger. To measure flow an acoustic signal is reflected back to the sensor from moving particles or gas bubbles suspended in the fluid.

Installation is easy – without shutting down the flow system. No contact is made with the moving fluid and no pipe cutting or drilling is required. There is no fouling or scale build-up on the sensor.

Backlit Matrix Display with Simple, 5-key Menu System
Calibration is easy with the new Greyline DFM 5.1 Doppler Flow Meter user-friendly menu system. Press the arrow keys to scroll through menus, change settings and enter calibration values. You can select English, French or Spanish menus, enable a password to protect settings and control brightness of the digital display.

Reverse Flow Measurement
The DFM 5.1 measures flow in either direction and displays positive or negative values. You can control the Totalizer to subtract reverse flow, or to totalize forward flow only. The 4mA setting can also be adjusted to a negative flow setting.

Optional Data Logger with USB Thumb Drive Support
Order your DFM 5.1 Doppler Flow Meter with an optional built-in 2 million point data logger. It includes Windows software to display flow charts and tables, and to create dynamic flow reports. Just plug in a standard USB flash drive and log files are downloaded automatically – and fast!

Principle of Operation
The DFM 5.1 Sensor transmits continuous high frequency sound through the pipe wall into the flowing liquid. Sound is reflected back to the Sensor from particles or gas bubbles in the liquid. If the liquid is flowing, the reflected sound returns at an altered frequency (the Doppler effect). The DFM 5.1 continuously measures this frequency shift to accurately measure flow.

New Enhanced Signal Processing for Reliable Accuracy
The DFM 5.1 Doppler flow algorithm filters out background noise and interference. The high speed digital signal processor discriminates against weak and distorted signals for increased reliability and accuracy. If the processor cannot measure accurately the meter will display zero flow.

The Greyline DFM 5.1 Doppler Flow Meter includes an ultrasonic sensor, a simple 5-key calibration system, a large digital flow rate display with totalizer, isolated 4-20mA output and two programmable control relays. Data logger and intrinsically safe sensor are optional.

Greyline TTFM 1.0 Ultrasonic Flowmeter

Greyline TTFM 1.0 Ultrasonic Flowmeter – Vancouver BC

At Southwell Corp, we have been selling and supporting Greyline flow meters in Vancouver and throughout BC for over 15 years. The Greyline TTFM 1.0 Ultrasonic Flowmeter provides accurate Flow Measurement of Clean Liquids with Non-Contacting Transducers.

Greyline TTFM 1.0 Ultrasonic Flowmeter

Greyline TTFM 1.0 Transit Time Flowmeter with Clamp-on Ultrasonic Transducers

Call 1.844.599.0260 to request a quote or email sales@SouthwellCorp.com

Non-Contacting Flow Measurement
Ultrasonic transducers mount on the of plastic or metal pipes to measure flow rate of clean, non-aerated fluids like water, chemicals, and oils. The outside clamp-on transducers can be mounted without shutting down flow. There is no pressure drop and no obstruction. Transducer separation distance is calculated by the flowmeter according to pipe diameter and wall thickness.

User-Friendly Operating System
Use the built-in keypad for fast, easy calibration with menu selection of pipe diameter, pipe material, liquid type and measurement units (gallons, liters etc.) Settings, calibration values and totalizer are retained during power interruptions.

Measures Flow from the Outside of Metal and Plastic Pipes
The TTFM 1.0 Transit Time Flowmeter works by measuring the “transit time” or “time of flight” for ultrasonic sound pulses transmitted from one transducer to another. Depending on the mounting configuration, the signal may cross the pipe once, twice or four times.

The time between transmitted and received signals is precisely measured by the flow meter. Ultrasonic signals are sent upstream and then downstream with the transducers alternating their functions as transmitters/receivers.

The transit time in the direction of flow is always faster than the transit time against the  flow. By comparing these differences with precision timing circuits, the Greyline TTFM 1.0 Ultrasonic Flowmeter is able  to accurately calculate the flow rate. Because the ultrasonic signal is forced to cross the  pipe, an average of the flow profile is calculated. So compensation for laminar or  turbulent flow is automatic.

TTFM 1.0 transducers can be mounted on vertical or horizontal pipes. The pipe must be  full. Choice of V, Z or W mounting method depends on the application and pipe diameter. V-Mount is the most common method while Z-Mount is used for larger pipes or weak signal applications and W-Mount for smaller pipes.

Works with Clean Liquids
The TTFM 1.0 Transit Time Flowmeter is designed for flow measurement of clean, non-aerated liquids in full pipes. High concentrations of solids or gas bubbles (>2% by volume) will attenuate sound and the Transit Time ultrasonic signal may not be able to cross the pipe. A Greyline Doppler-type flow meter is recommended for applications with solids or bubbles (eg. wastewater or slurries).

Works from the of Outside of Common Pipe Materials
Mount the TTFM 1.0 ultrasonic transducers on the outside of metal or plastic pipes including carbon steel, stainless steel, ductile iron, cast iron, PVC, PVDF, fiberglass, copper, brass,
aluminum and pipes with bonded liners including epoxy, rubber and Teflon. Avoid pipes made with porous materials (e.g. wood or concrete) or with loose insertion liners.

Simple Menu System for Fast, Easy Start-up and Calibration
Calibration and start-up can be done in a few minutes. Use the built-in 5-button keypad to enter the pipe material and OD, wall thickness and fluid type. The TTFM 1.0 will display the correct transducer separation distance and mounting method. Secure the stainless steel pipe clamps and align the mounting brackets on the outside of the pipe. Put coupling compound (included) on the transducer faces and insert them into the mounting brackets. The Greyline TTFM 1.0 Ultrasonic Flowmeter will immediately begin to  display, transmit and totalize flow.

Transducer Installation in Wet Locations
The TTFM 1.0 Transit Time Flowmeter transducers are rated for accidental submersion up to 10 psi (0.75 bar). The flowmeter will continue to operate and measure flow accurately during periods of submergence. Plastic seal jackets on the cables can be filled with coupling compound to provide additional moisture protection for the BNC cable connectors.

Easy to Install
Install TTFM 1.0 Transit Time Flowmeter without cutting the pipe or shutting down  flow. It operates on a wide range of metal and plastic pipe sizes and just takes just a few minutes to calibrate and start-up.

The flowmeter works by injecting sound through the pipe wall and into the flowing  liquid. The transducers transmit ultrasonic signals back and forth. The up and downstream “transit times” are precisely measured and compared to calculate the flow rate. Advanced signal processing software and electronics suppress interference and
measure flow with high repeatability and ±0.5 to 2% accuracy.

TTFM 1.0 Advanced Features
Plug-and-play options including a 2-million point data logger and extra control relays can be installed at any time. Power consumption is low (4 Watts typical) with standard AC and optional DC power input. Display backlight brightness is adjustable and 4-20mA output and relays can be disabled to reduce power consumption.

The TTFM ultrasonic transducers are waterproof and designed to operate in wet environments or during accidental submersion. Transducer cable length can be field- extended up to 250 ft (75 m) with optional shielded cable and junction box.

Choice of “Reflex” or “Diagonal” operating modes depends on the application and pipe diameter. Through the calibration menu you are prompted to enter: pipe OD, pipe wall thickness and lining thickness, pipe material, fluid type and temperature. Once these values are entered into the calibration menu, the Portaflow indicates the transducer mounting mode and correct sensor separation distance.

In most applications Reflex mode mounting will be used for pipes 10 (250 mm) diameter or less, and Diagonal mounting will be used for pipes greater than 10 (250 mm) diameter. Each Portaflow includes stainless steel clamps and a guiderail for easy mounting. Sensor separation distance can be adjusted, and sensors can be extracted and remounted without removing the guiderail or clamps. An acoustic gel (supplied) is used between the sensors and the outside of the pipe to ensure that sound is conducted from the sensors through the pipe wall.

Greyline PT400 Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter - display graphic of flow reading

Large Display with User-friendly Calibration Menu
Flow rate and total flow are displayed continuously along with battery status, signal strength, plus any error messages. Press one key to instantly change the units of flow measurement (eg. from gallons to litres). Real time flow can be displayed in large numeric values or as a graph.

Calibration is easy with the Portaflow menu system. Use the “Quick Start” menu to enter pipe OD, wall thickness, pipe material, fluid type and temperature. The flowmeter will prompt with the correct mounting method and sensor separation distance and begin reading flow as soon as the sensors are mounted.

Measures, Totalizes and Transmits Flow in BOTH Directions
Forward flow is displayed on the Portaflow as a positive value and reverse flow is shown as a negative value. Separate 12-digit totals for both forward and reverse flow are also displayed. The 4-20mA output can be configured with 4mA as zero flow, or with 4mA as a negative value and 20mA as a positive value.

Stores Calibration Set-up for Multiple sites
Calibration data can be stored for up to 20 different sites or applications. If you regularly return to the same pipe location for flow readings, this is a real time-saver. You can enter a site name and all your calibration parameters are automatically saved. When you return to that pipe location, simply recall the site name/number from the set-up menu, mount the sensors and start reading flow.

4-20mA Output
Connect the Portaflow to external displays, recorders, data loggers or controllers. Install sensors without cutting pipe so you can use the Portaflow as a spare or emergency transmitter when in-line flow meters fail. The analog output can be configured for 4-20mA or 0-20mA signal output.

Select ‘A’ or ‘B’ Sensor Pairs for Small or Large Pipe Sizes
Order with ‘A’ Transducers for 0.51 to 4.5” (13 to 115 mm) outside diameter pipes, or ‘B’ size for 2 to 39.4” (50 to 1000 mm) pipes. Use it on any solid metal or plastic pipe material.

The PT400 displays, totalizes and transmits with isolated 4-20mA and programmable pulse outputs. The rechargeable NiMH batteries will power the unit for 16 hours continuous operation and charges overnight.

It takes just a few minutes to install the Transducers and measure flow from outside the pipe. Measure flow in volumetric units (gallons or liters) or switch to velocity units (ft/sec or m/sec) with a single key press. Forward and reverse flow is displayed and totalized on the large, backlit display.

Operate the PT400 from internal NiMH batteries or continuously with the 110-240VAC charger supplied. Signal strength and battery state is displayed. Select from 9 menu system languages including English, Spanish, French, German and Russian.

Fiberglass and Radio Frequency Transparency

In today’s connected world, we depend on cellular telephone signals, Wi-Fi networks and over the air radio and television signals. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity are essential to on-site work environments. Steel structures significantly disrupt these signals. Fiberglass Grating is an essential part of building structures that are “electronically transparent” and do not interfere with radio frequency transmissions.
