Ultrasonic Sensor mounts on any Pipe

Greyline Doppler Flow Meters monitor the flow rate of dirty or aerated liquids including: wastewater, chemicals, acids, slurries, abrasives and viscous liquids. Recommended for full pipes and any fluid that contains solids or bubbles.

The DFM 5.1 strap-on sensor is mounted on the outside of a plastic or metal pipe ½ inch / 12.7 mm diameter or larger. To measure flow an acoustic signal is reflected back to the sensor from moving particles or gas bubbles suspended in the fluid.

Installation is easy – without shutting down the flow system. No contact is made with the moving fluid and no pipe cutting or drilling is required. There is no fouling or scale build-up on the sensor.

Backlit Matrix Display with Simple, 5-key Menu System
Calibration is easy with the new Greyline DFM 5.1 Doppler Flow Meter user-friendly menu system. Press the arrow keys to scroll through menus, change settings and enter calibration values. You can select English, French or Spanish menus, enable a password to protect settings and control brightness of the digital display.

Reverse Flow Measurement
The DFM 5.1 measures flow in either direction and displays positive or negative values. You can control the Totalizer to subtract reverse flow, or to totalize forward flow only. The 4mA setting can also be adjusted to a negative flow setting.

Optional Data Logger with USB Thumb Drive Support
Order your DFM 5.1 Doppler Flow Meter with an optional built-in 2 million point data logger. It includes Windows software to display flow charts and tables, and to create dynamic flow reports. Just plug in a standard USB flash drive and log files are downloaded automatically – and fast!

Principle of Operation
The DFM 5.1 Sensor transmits continuous high frequency sound through the pipe wall into the flowing liquid. Sound is reflected back to the Sensor from particles or gas bubbles in the liquid. If the liquid is flowing, the reflected sound returns at an altered frequency (the Doppler effect). The DFM 5.1 continuously measures this frequency shift to accurately measure flow.

New Enhanced Signal Processing for Reliable Accuracy
The DFM 5.1 Doppler flow algorithm filters out background noise and interference. The high speed digital signal processor discriminates against weak and distorted signals for increased reliability and accuracy. If the processor cannot measure accurately the meter will display zero flow.

The Greyline DFM 5.1 Doppler Flow Meter includes an ultrasonic sensor, a simple 5-key calibration system, a large digital flow rate display with totalizer, isolated 4-20mA output and two programmable control relays. Data logger and intrinsically safe sensor are optional.

Clamp-on Ultrasonic Sensors
Recommended for clean fluids like water, glycol, oil and most chemicals. Portaflow ultrasonic sensors strap-on the outside of pipes from 1/2 to 78 (13 to 2000 mm) diameter. The ultrasonic signal penetrates all common metal and plastic pipe materials. Sensors can be mounted without shutting down flow and there is no obstruction or pressure drop.

Simple Calibration System
Calibration is easy with the onscreen menu system. Enter the pipe diameter, wall thickness and pipe material, and the Portaflow indicates the optimum mounting method and separation distance for the
sensors. Calibration parameters can be stored for up to twenty different sites so that operators can recall calibration setups from the Portaflow memory.

Fully Rechargeable
The Portaflow is powered by an internal, rechargeable NiMH battery or can be operated continuously with AC power input. Use it for spot checks or for extended operation as a 4-20mA flow transmitter. Each Portaflow includes a carrying case, transducer set, mounting track, cables and accessories.

Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter
Non-Invasive with Clamp-on Sensors for Spot Checks, Troubleshooting and to Balance Flow

Sensor Mounting
Portaflow transducers can be mounted on vertical or horizontal pipe. The pipe must be full.

Choice of “Reflex” or “Diagonal” operating modes depends on the application and pipe diameter. Through the calibration menu you are prompted to enter: pipe OD, pipe wall thickness and lining thickness, pipe material, fluid type and temperature. Once these values are entered into the calibration menu, the Portaflow indicates the transducer mounting mode and correct sensor separation distance.

In most applications Reflex mode mounting will be used for pipes 10 (250 mm) diameter or less, and Diagonal mounting will be used for pipes greater than 10 (250 mm) diameter. Each Portaflow includes stainless steel clamps and a guiderail for easy mounting. Sensor separation distance can be adjusted, and sensors can be extracted and remounted without removing the guiderail or clamps. An acoustic gel (supplied) is used between the sensors and the outside of the pipe to ensure that sound is conducted from the sensors through the pipe wall.

Large Display with User-friendly Calibration Menu
Flow rate and total flow are displayed continuously along with battery status, signal strength, plus any error messages. Press one key to instantly change the units of flow measurement (eg. from gallons to litres). Real time flow can be displayed in large numeric values or as a graph.

Calibration is easy with the Portaflow menu system. Use the “Quick Start” menu to enter pipe OD, wall thickness, pipe material, fluid type and temperature. The flowmeter will prompt with the correct mounting method and sensor separation distance and begin reading flow as soon as the sensors are mounted.

Measures, Totalizes and Transmits Flow in BOTH Directions
Forward flow is displayed on the Portaflow as a positive value and reverse flow is shown as a negative value. Separate 12-digit totals for both forward and reverse flow are also displayed. The 4-20mA output can be configured with 4mA as zero flow, or with 4mA as a negative value and 20mA as a positive value.

Stores Calibration Set-up for Multiple sites
Calibration data can be stored for up to 20 different sites or applications. If you regularly return to the same pipe location for flow readings, this is a real time-saver. You can enter a site name and all your calibration parameters are automatically saved. When you return to that pipe location, simply recall the site name/number from the set-up menu, mount the sensors and start reading flow.

4-20mA Output
Connect the Portaflow to external displays, recorders, data loggers or controllers. Install sensors without cutting pipe so you can use the Portaflow as a spare or emergency transmitter when in-line flow meters fail. The analog output can be configured for 4-20mA or 0-20mA signal output.

Select ‘A’ or ‘B’ Sensor Pairs for Small or Large Pipe Sizes
Order with ‘A’ Transducers for 0.51 to 4.5” (13 to 115 mm) outside diameter pipes, or ‘B’ size for 2 to 39.4” (50 to 1000 mm) pipes. Use it on any solid metal or plastic pipe material.

The PT400 displays, totalizes and transmits with isolated 4-20mA and programmable pulse outputs. The rechargeable NiMH batteries will power the unit for 16 hours continuous operation and charges overnight.

It takes just a few minutes to install the Transducers and measure flow from outside the pipe. Measure flow in volumetric units (gallons or liters) or switch to velocity units (ft/sec or m/sec) with a single key press. Forward and reverse flow is displayed and totalized on the large, backlit display.

Operate the PT400 from internal NiMH batteries or continuously with the 110-240VAC charger supplied. Signal strength and battery state is displayed. Select from 9 menu system languages including English, Spanish, French, German and Russian.

Pump Station Level Control, Monitoring and Reporting
Designed for pump stations, wet wells and tank level control the new Greyline PSL 5.0 Pump Station Level Controller has six independently programmable control relays for pump or valve control, level alarms, autodialers, temperature or fault alarms.

No contact, No maintenance
Mount the non-contacting, ultrasonic sensor in the tank or wet well and install the watertight electronics in the control room or any location within 500 ft / 150 m. Use the simple menu system and built-in keypad to set up measurement range, relay set points and pump alternation sequence. A relay/pump run time report is updated and stored automatically for viewing on the instrument’s backlit LCD display.

Dual-Technology Sensor Feature – Redundant Level Sensing
Connect a submersible pressure sensor or other 4-20mA level transmitter to the PSL 5.0 for fail-safe hybrid sensing. The PSL 5.0 will auto-calibrate the redundant sensor and if signal is lost to the ultrasonic sensor, the redundant sensor will seamlessly take over monitoring until signal resumes from the ultrasonic. The redundant sensor is continuously monitored to ensure availability during primary sensor failure.

Easy to Install with Non-Contacting Sensor
The PSL 5.0 Pump Station Level Controller is designed for Pump Station and Tank Level Control applications. Mount the non-contacting ultrasonic sensor above the well or at the top of a tank. Use the built-in keypad to calibrate measurement span, relay set-points, pump alternation sequence and level alarms. Assign the six built-in control relays for ON/OFF pump control, Hi or Lo level alarms, autodialer activation, air temperature alarm or sensor echo loss alarm. Connect the isolated 4-20mA output to your SCADA system, PLC’s or recorders.

Redundant Sensor Level Control
The PSL 5.0 sets a new level of reliability. It operates with an ultrasonic level transducer as its primary sensor but also accepts connections from 4-20mA level sensors for redundancy. If the ultrasonic transducer loses signal from foam on the water surface for example, the redundant sensor will take over reading instantly. As soon as the ultrasonic sensor receives new echoes, it will resume function as the primary sensor.

An animated icon on the PSL 5.0 digital display indicates that the ultrasonic sensor is active. The icon indicates if the system automatically switches to the redundant sensor.

Calibration of the Redundant Sensor is Totally Automatic
You can use hydrostatic pressure sensors, radar, or any 4-20mA transmitter for redundant level sensing. The PSL 5.0 automatically scales and calibrates the redundant sensor during each pump cycle. Once the PSL has operated through at least one pump cycle, the redundant sensor will be calibrated and ready to function.

Ideal for Water, Wastewater and Process Automation
Use the PSL 5.0 Pump Station Level Controller for pump or level control and for
automatic pump alternation/sequencing. It is designed for the harsh operating conditions in wet well or tank level control applications. The non-contacting ultrasonic sensor mounts at the top of a wet well or tank, and you can connect a redundant 4-20mA level sensor for added reliability in challenging pump station applications.

Relay Run Time Reporting System
View the PSL 5.0 relay run time report directly on the backlit digital display. You can identify “lazy” pumps pump failures occur and plan pump maintenance to reduce call-outs and down-time. If a redundant level sensor is connected its operation time is also indicated.

In today’s connected world, we depend on cellular telephone signals, Wi-Fi networks and over the air radio and television signals. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity are essential to on-site work environments. Steel structures significantly disrupt these signals. Fiberglass Grating is an essential part of building structures that are “electronically transparent” and do not interfere with radio frequency transmissions.

Measures Velocity and Level to Monitor Flow with Multiple Ultrasonic Sensors
Monitor flow through large open channels, partially full sewer pipes and surcharged pipes without a flume or weir. Designed for municipal stormwater, stream flow, irrigation water, raw sewage, water intake channels, cooling water discharges and industrial effluent.

Submersible Ultrasonic Sensors
The AVMS 5.1 uses three submerged ultrasonic sensors to continuously measure both Velocity and Level in the channel. It is recommended for large channels or applications where velocity will vary across the width of the channel. The sensors resist fouling, corrosion and abrasion. The Greyline AVMS 5.1 Multi-Sensor Area-Velocity Flow Meter offers excellence in flow meter technology.

The flowmeter can be configured with three standard submerged velocity-level sensors, or with three submerged velocity plus a separate non-contacting ultrasonic level sensor.

View flowrate and total flow on the large backlit LCD display and connect to external devices with three 4-20mA outputs and two control relays.

Multi-Sensor Flow Monitor for Open Channels & Partially Filled Pipes
The AVMS 5.1 Area-Velocity Flow Meter measures level and average velocity from multiple sensors to calculate flow in open channels or pipes. The system includes the AVMS 5.1 flowmeter with interconnect cable to a multi-sensor enclosure plus three submerged ultrasonic sensors.

The ultrasonic velocity sensors mount in the channel in positions where they will be submerged. Stainless steel mounting brackets included. The sensors are completely sealed with no orifices or ports. Level is measured by connecting the built-in level sensor from any one of the three velocity sensors, or with an optional non-contacting ultrasonic level sensor.
Greyline AVMS 5.1 Multi-Sensor Area-Velocity Flow Meter

Q = V x A
To measure flow the AVMS 5.1 averages the velocity readings from its three submerged sensors. The level reading and channel dimensions provide the channel cross sectional area. Calibration is simple: enter the pipe diameter or channel dimensions and the AVMS 5.1 automatically computes and displays flow volume. Channels of virtually any shape can be monitored with your choice of measurement units.

Recommended Pipe or Channel Conditions
Channels greater than 2 m (6 ft) width or diameter may have significant variations in velocity across the channel width. By mounting three velocity sensors an average velocity profile is measured. The AVMS 5.1 will automatically factor out zero readings at low flow rates if one or more sensors are not submerged or become covered in sediment.

Careful selection of mounting location results in best performance and maintenance-free operation. Avoid locations where sediment builds up. The channel should not have drops or direction changes immediately upstream of the sensor and it should have a consistent cross section for one channel width upstream. Pipe or channel slope should not exceed 3%.

The AVMS 5.1 can measure forward velocity up to 20 ft/sec (6 m/sec) and up to 5 ft/sec (1.5 m/sec) reverse velocity. The electronics and software sample and average flow rates continuously to provide stable readings. The submerged velocity/level sensors will measure flow in partially full channels, culverts or surcharged pipes with pressure up to 10 psi.

Sensor Mounting Configurations
Sensors can be positioned across the channel to capture variations in flow velocity. One of the sensors is also used to measure level so it must be mounted at the bottom of the channel parallel to the water surface.

Optional Non-Contacting Level Sensor
An optional, non-contacting ultrasonic level sensor can be used for applications with turbulence or where level measurement from the channel bottom may be restricted by aeration or sediment. Each individual velocity and level sensor cable can be extended up to 500 ft (150 m) total length using an optional cable junction box.

The AVMS 5.1 Multi-Sensor Area-Velocity Flow Meter includes three submerged ultrasonic sensors that are installed in an open pipe or channel. The sensors have no moving parts and no orifices, ports or electrodes. Each sensor is installed with a stainless steel mounting bracket and one screw into the pipe or channel wall.

Channels of any shape can be monitored. Forward and reverse flow can be measured and totalized. The AVMS 5.1 includes three 4-20mA outputs ( flow, level and velocity), plus two control relays for level alarms or flow proportionate pulse output for samplers and chlorinators.

The AVMS 5.1 is easy to calibrate with its 5-button keypad and menu system. Extra relays and a built-in 2-million point data logger with USB output are optional.
